Bob Jahnke, ‘ATA: A Third Reflection’ on at Tauranga Art Gallery” 9 September 2017 – 7 January 2018

Toi Iho artist Bob Jahnke (Ngāi Taharora, Te Whānau-a-Iritekura, Te Whānau a Rakairoa o Ngāti Porou, Samoan-German, Scottish and Irish descent) latest exhibition ATA: A Third Reflection is currently showing at Tauranga Art Gallery as part of its tour developed by Pātaka Art + Museum. Using the materiality of mirrors and neon lighting, Jahnke presents symbols of Maori history, early used by leaders such as Te Kooti Arikirangi and Rua Kēnana, and in doing so calls to our attention their ongoing importance to Maori.

Jahnke is a Professor of Maori Visual Arts at Toioho ki Apiti, Massey University.
