The Wairau Maori Art Gallery will only show exhibitions of contemporary Maori artists, curated by Maori curators. This is the first dedicated gallery for Maori ever and in this respect it is unique. The Wairau Maori Art Gallery will have three or four exhibitions a year, with work on loan from The Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki, Te Papa Tongarewa and the Whangarei Art Museum.
Toi Iho artists exhibiting in this venue will interact with visitors from Kohanga Reo, Kura Kaupapa Maori, schools and tertiary institutions and groups from Marae and the community. This will be an opportunity for people to see the best of Maori art at all times.
