Ngahiwi Apanui, is a prominent New Zealand composer excelling in both traditional moteatea (chants) and contemporary Māori music.

A former member of the influential band, Aotearoa, who gained attention for their impactful lyrics and reggae sound, notably with the 1985 single "Maranga Ake Ai," advocating Māori youth pride.

Post-Aotearoa, Ngahiwi embarked on a solo career, collaborating with leading Māori musicians. Recognized for his contributions, he received the APRA Silver Scroll Award finalist in the Maioha section in 2011 and won the Best Mana Reo Album at the 2003 New Zealand Music Awards. Ngahiwi has composed songs for major events, including the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. He currently is a member of the Aotearoa AllStars who perform around the motu. 

Ngahiwi's impact extends beyond music; he played a crucial role in Māori music and language strategy, emphasizing the 'Four Worlds of Māori Music.' With a strong advocacy for education, he served as the CEO of Massey University’s Ako Aotearoa and is currently the CEO of Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori (Māori Language Commission).
